LavaCon 2023: Enterprise Content Strategy
Actually Completing a Real Enterprise
Content Strategy for the Entire Enterprise and Getting it Right
Kevin P Nichols, Executive Director, Experience and Rebecca Schneider, Executive Director, Content, AvenueCX
This was a pre-conference workshop for 1/2 day that I attended on Saturday (Oct 14, 2023). It proved to be very useful and insightful.
The key book on this topic is “Managing Enterprise Content — A unified content strategy” by Ann Rockley. A book authored by the presenter “Enterprise Content Strategy — A Project Guide” was given to all the participants.
Notes from the session (key steps to create an enterprise content strategy)
- Definition of content
- Strategy Vs Enterprise content strategy: Creating a strategy for the enterprise might take a year
- Content strategy: Can you quantify content as an asset to your organization?
- Content inventory: The process begins by getting an inventory/repository of different types of content in the enterprise
- Content types: Should describe the mechanism or intent of information
- Content audit must be done post inventory
- Stakeholder interviews: Who should I talk to, to hear about content woes?
- Also understand about competitive content
- Content strategy need not define every single piece of content in the enterprise. You could easily have content in scope/out of scope
- Also, there needs to be a content governance mechanism in place
